"What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.”

― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

At Truefitt & Hill, we believe there is powerful meaning in a name.

After all, a look at the names in Truefitt's appointment book records reads like a 'Who's Who' of legendary figures from the world of politics, literature and entertainment. Names like Charles Dickens, Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Byron, Oscar Wilde, Alfred Hitchcock, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and Fred Astaire each carry a significance far beyond just being someone’s name. These names are powerful because of the lasting legacy of the men who held them.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that at Truefitt and Hill we attach special meaning to the names of our products. Truefitt is mentioned throughout modern English literature as a bastion of style and the highest quality service - a tradition we are proud to continue today. The names we choose often reflect the storied history of our truly unique company, and evoke the long forgotten elegance of bygone eras.

Shakespeare may have said “What’s in a name?” at Truefitt & Hill we say a great deal. Without a nod to our rich heritage as inspiration, we believe our scents would not smell so sweet.

Let’s take a look at the meaning behind the names of our colognes.

Apsley

Our alluring new scent. The fragrance is named after the iconic London landmark and former residence of one of Truefitt & Hill’s past patrons, the 1st Duke of Wellington. One of England’s most esteemed sons, his name conjures up the image of determination, sophistication and selfless courage. The Aspley name celebrates men who aspire to these same values and to achieve personal greatness in whatever they do.

Trafalgar

Traces its name to the decisive naval battle off Cape Trafalgar in 1805, where under the command of Admiral Lord Nelson, one of this country’s greatest heroes, the Royal Navy arose victorious after devastating a far superior enemy fleet.

1805

Also named for this momentous year in British history, a year which has a special significance as it marks the birth of Truefitt & Hill.

Grafton

A name that further honours British naval tradition and is named after the line of illustrious British naval vessels.

Sandalwood

Ever popular, says exactly what it is, a classic men's fragrance, albeit with a truly modern twist.

Spanish Leather

While for the more nostalgic of men, the name brings back the memories of childhood with the rich but subtle blend of woody, leathery and spicy notes.

West Indian Limes

The fresh and zesty scent connotes to the days of the British Empire, and early trade influences.

Freshman & Clubman

These on the other hand, mirror the elegance and sophistication of the bygone years of London’s fashionable West End.

What’s in a name? At Truefitt & Hill, there is a celebration of our history at every turn.
